EDTC mandates CCTV installation in shops, banks

DIMAPUR, JULY 11 (MExN): In a move aimed at enhancing public safety and maintaining law and order, the East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has issued a directive mandating all commercial establishments, institutions, and banking service providers located along the highway and main roads within its jurisdiction to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras by November 30, 2025.

According to the notification, all concerned establishments are required to install functional CCTV cameras both facing the roadside and within key internal areas of their premises. The EDTC stated that this measure is being enforced to deter illegal activities, aid in crime prevention, and support law enforcement efforts within the town.

The council further directed that CCTV cameras must be installed covering the roadside or front-facing areas of each premises, as well as important interior sections. All installed cameras must remain operational at all times, and recorded footage should be properly maintained.

The East Dimapur Town Council has informed that inspections will be carried out after the stipulated deadline to verify compliance. Non-compliance may attract penalties as per applicable rules and regulations, it added.
