EDTC: Strict action against illegal dumping of waste

Dimapur, June 2 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) on Tuesday cautioned of penal action against any individual, household, commercial establishment or vehicle found illegally dumping waste, sewage, construction debris or any other waste materials on roadsides, drains, vacant lands or other unauthorised locations within its jurisdiction.

The notice came after the Council cleared accumulated sewage and waste across its jurisdiction on June 2, 2026. The EDTC has appealed to all residential and commercial establishments to segregate wet and dry waste at the source before disposal, stating that proper waste segregation is essential for effective waste management, environmental protection and maintaining public hygiene.

In a public notice, the Council informed that it has been granted a limited period of one month to dispose of the collected waste at the designated dumping site of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). During this period, the EDTC said it is making every effort to manage waste disposal and maintain a clean and healthy environment for all residents.

Seeking cooperation from citizens, the EDTC urged everyone to demonstrate civic responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment. “Together, we can ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more livable East Dimapur Town,” the council added.
