Mokokchung Dist Task Force on Mission Indradhanush, WIFS
Dimapur, April 28 (MExN): The involvement of education and social welfare department are essential to cover unreached areas and encourage people to avail the immunization facilities.
This was stated during Mokokchung district task force meeting on ‘Mission Indradhanush’ and weekly iron folic acid (WIFS) supplement programme held at Deputy Commissioner’s Office, on April 28.
The meeting convened by ADC, Mokokchung Bendanglila was attended by District Administrations, medical department, social welfare department and school education department.
During the meeting, Dr Temsuyanger DPO (UIP&RCH) noted that the mission was launched with the aim of expanding immunization coverage to all the children who are either unvaccinated or are partially vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases.
This mission should reach ‘the hard to reach areas’ and it requires the involvement of Education department and Social Welfare Department to encourage people to avail the facilities, he pointed out.
The DPO also highlighted about WIFS that targeted at preventing anaemia in women of reproductive age and covers the age of 10-19 years. Under the WIFS programme for adolescents, IFA supplements are to be distributed free of cost.
He further gave a brief explanation on Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) programme, a health screening programme also known as intervention under the school health programme.
It is now being expanded to cover all children from birth to 19 years of age, he said. Different mobile health team conducts health screening in government as well as government aided schools students and Anganwadi children.
Dr. Kibangkumba Dy. CMO also gave a brief note on RBSK noting that it is an innovative and ambitious initiative aimed at screening from 0 to 19 years of age for 4 Ds i.e. defects at birth, disease, deficiency and disabilities.
