Edu Minister exhorts administrative officers

Minister for school education, CM Chang today called upon the administrative officers of the school education department to observe whether good students are being produced not only within Nagaland but also at the national level and even globally.

Gracing the general conference of the Nagaland School Education Administrative Officers Association (NSEAOA) here this morning at the State Academy Hall, the minister also urged the administrative officers to inspect schools and interact with students and teaching staff to discuss problems and solve issues and ensure that schemes are successfully implemented in the schools.

He also stated that administrators should have proper knowledge of problems faced in the educational system through interactions and approach the government to resolve the matters and also share suggestions for improvement. The minister commented that education department is linked with all the villages in the state and covers the entire state of Nagaland. Accordingly, he said the officers are posted in different areas to impart quality education and their duty is to carry out good administration within their jurisdiction. The administrators should possess far-sightedness and instill a broad mindset in the students, encouraging them in the pursuit of higher studies, he added.

Further, maintaining that many people have the outlook that administration pertains to Nagaland Civil Service and Indian Administrative service, he however was of the opinion that every government department has a similar kind of working system of administration, without which it cannot work. One cannot be considered a good or successful employee unless he has knowledge of the work he is assigned to and has mastered it. The school education officers should strive to produce good leaders in their locality, in the state and the country even if it involved sacrifices for their cause, he said.

Also gracing the conference as the guest of honour, Ex officio, principal director of school education, M. Patton, IAS also stated that quality education in the state is the most talked about topic in the society and as administrative officers of the Education department, they are all responsible to impart quality education and to uplift the educational standard of the state. Achieving quality education rests with the administrative officers through proper administration of the department, to upgrade educational standard of the state means to upgrade teaching quality of teachers, he mentioned.

He also stated that although administrative officers may not be involved in classroom teaching, it is their duty to see that teaching standard in the schools is enhanced and upgraded. The officers should equip themselves with rules and regulations concerning their activities so that they are empowered to administer well. Patton also stated that administrative officers should avail opportunities of trainings because through these, they become aware of rules and regulations concerning their work and are imparted with knowledge maintaining that the empowerment of knowledge through trainings will help in executing their duties efficiently.

S.Y. Singh, educationist and former lecturer Grade-1, NCTE & principal, G. Rio higher secondary school, Kohima gave a paper presentation on the topic “Role and responsibility of an education officer in school administration and management for quality education in Nagaland. The function was chaired by Zaveyi Nyekha, Director SE while welcome speech was delivered by U. Tomba, joint director SE.
