Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The recently concluded 14th Biennial General Conference of All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) extensively discussed on the topic “Education: A tool for self-reliance.” Talking from the Entrepreneur’s perspective a very comprehensive presentation was made by Neichute Doulo, Coordinator, Entrepreneurs Associates.
The Coordinator said that Naga social capital, considered the highest social capital in the world stems forth from our culture and history. Self confidence and positive pride a person enjoys and treasurer about oneself-culture and history contributes to the spirit of self-reliance. It also comes with the ability to control over resources and factors of production. “I believe knowing our culture and history will help us to say no to easy money and live more responsible lives. I believe making education more relevant and contextual by erasing old ideas with new vibrant ones will curtail the dependency of Nagas on government. Then, we will be proud of ourselves,” Neichute said.
Today Naga farmers sell cabbages and potatoes through mobile phones, Naga first generation entrepreneurs buy and sell through the internet. This is possible with entrepreneurship and business. Certainly it looks like life with full of excitements, not dull and slow life. But 95% of Naga youths look for the dull and slow life-government job…if you are self-employed or is employed in the private sector, you are considered unemployed. “These old idea must change,” he reasserted.
Education must teach entrepreneurship, not just how to secure a government job. But in entrepreneurship, making mistakes is unavoidable. He also stated that “We learn by mistakes because it means we take initiatives. Without mistakes, business ideas cannot be born. Our education must help us to remove some of the bad soft-wares in our brains through de-learning about our culture, history, work, job and self. We must relearn what we missed and learn new skills, especially entrepreneurial skills to become successful.”
“Our education must encourage us to dream and we as individuals must give our utmost for that idea. This will develop entrepreneurship and create enterprising spirit among Nagas. With entrepreneurship we will have a self reliant society. And the battle is our mind. An educated mind does not necessarily look for job; rather it creates work, opportunity and productivity generating income and wealth for self and others. Let our education lead us towards this truth,” Neichute further added.
