Wokha, September 9 (MExN): The Englan Yingsung Women Livelihood Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd (EYWLT & CCS Ltd), in partnership with the Wokha District Administration, SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, and the Departments of Social Welfare and School Education, inaugurated an Adult Education Campaign today to commemorate International Literacy Day. The event took place at the Yikhum Community Hall in Wokha district.
Chaired by Y Tumchobeni Kithan, MBK cum VF Longjung VLO Englan, the program featured a keynote and welcome address from the President of EYWLT & CCS Ltd. The President highlighted the urgent need for adult education, particularly for members of various self-help groups who are currently illiterate. She expressed hope that the initiative would enable women in the villages to write their names and signatures with ease.
Dr. Wonchano E Enny from SANKALP: DHEW provided insights into Mission Shakti, while representatives from the Education Department, Sakhi One Stop Centre, and BPM, BMMU Wokha Block delivered short speeches.
The chairman of Yikhum Village Council concluded the event with a vote of thanks, extending gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, IAS, for sponsoring stationery under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
He also acknowledged the Education Department for providing study materials and teachers. The chairman emphasized the campaign's potential to address issues such as filling out scheme forms, managing bank accounts, and using smartphones, and expressed hope that it would also enable villagers to read the Bible and sing hymns with pride.
The Adult Education Campaign will be held twice a week in the evenings at three locations under the Englan range, with classes conducted by government teachers assigned by the Education Department.
