In order to strengthen mother tongues, the School Education Department has distributed free dialect text books for 17 different dialects from Classes I to VIII with a budget provision of Rs. 1.50 crore during the year 2016-17.
This was stated in the annual administrative report 2016-17 of the School Education Department tabled on the floor of the House today by School Education Minister, Yitachu.
In pursuant of RTE Act 2009, the department is also obligated to provide free text books for all students enrolled in elementary schools.
The total enrollment getting the benefit of free text book is 20,12,287, the report stated.
The report stated that the government has provided Rs. 2 crores for this purpose during 2016-17 financial year.
Meanwhile, during 2016-17, 18 private schools have been granted provisional permission to run schools.
An amount of Rs. 650 lakhs (Rs. 350 lakhs under Negotiated Loan and Rs. 300 lakhs under state plan) was provided for construction of Directorate Building, DEO and SDEO offices, schools and Extension of class rooms.
The report stated that during 2016-17, an amount of Rs. 135.13 lakh was given a grant-in-aid to schools and institutions under non-plan.
