Nagaland Education department will not be made into a sector of solving the burgeoning unemployment problem, stated Yitachu, Minister for School Education & SCERT during a students’ union jubilee celebration.
The education minister was addressing the golden jubilee celebration of Kandi Students’ Union of December 31, 2015 last.
“I want schools to impart education to our children. I don’t require schools to give employment. I don’t want schools to be there so that somebody is appointed there,” he said.
Yitachu said schools should be used purely for education purposes. “Let the issue of unemployment be taken care of by other departments and agencies,” he stressed.
The minister also expressed disapproval over the prevailing practice of establishing schools primarily for generating employment in many Naga villages.
“This should not be the intention of opening schools,” he advocated.
“Let us open schools to give education to our children. If we need to create more employment opportunity let us take it up in other department and not in education department,” he reiterated.
Yitachu also expressed dismay that the mindset of ‘government job as the only job’ continue to persist amongst students, parents and elders till this day while thinking out loud that- “Somewhere, someplace, things has gone wrong in the Naga society.”
“We cannot allow this to go further. We have reached zenith point. We cannot take more,” he said while referring to strength of employment in the Nagaland government sector which has reached saturation point.
Also maintaining that student organizations are instrumental in bringing about changes in the society, Yitachu urged upon the students’ body to adopt decision to opt for entrepreneurship and industrialization.
“The government must reserve fund to promote industries. That should be our demand. That should be our focus,” he told the students. Such approach will lead to creating job opportunity to lakhs of people, he added.
