‘Education for women is a must’

Meluri, June 15 (DIPR): The Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) on June 12 organised a Women Seminar with the theme ‘Towards a New Horizon’ at the Meluri Village Council Hall. Resource person for the seminar, NSWC secretary Lithrongla G Chishi, NCS, who dwelled on women and education. She affirmed that education for women is a must as family life would be more peaceful and secure, and added that through women’s education, society would be benefited.

Additional Director for Women Development, Neilavoü Keditsu, dwelled on the economic empowerment of women. She said that empowerment means equal opportunities and privileges to women for the upliftment of the society. NSWC member Ellen Konyak dwelled on legal rights of women. She stressed on the laws for protection of women and children. Abeni T C K, NSWC member, spoke on the importance of health and child, stressing that a mother should know how to live a healthy life. She also stressed that pregnant mothers should take regular check ups from the hospital.

Earlier, NSCW chairperson Sano Vamuzo, delivering the keynote address, encouraged the women to raise their voices on rights of women by equipping themselves with knowledge of women’s legal rights and privileges. Additional Deputy Commissioner for Meluri, Peter Lichamo, in his exhortation thanked the Nagaland State Women Commission for sparing their time and energy for taking trouble for the Pochury women. Around 160 delegates, including women Church leaders, social workers, Anganwadi workers, VDBs and VCCs of Pochury attended the programme.
