‘Education is more than a good job’

Dimapur, November 10 (MExN): Nagaland Governor K Sankaranarayanan is convinced that there is more to life than good jobs. Helping students set realistic goals to turn them into productive and responsible students is one of them. The Governor was speaking at a students’ programme in Little Flower School, Kohima today.

“Many teachers prepare their students only in terms of giving them good education so that their students get good job. But today we realize life is more than a good job. We need students who could be more productive and blessing to the society” he said.

He said the three fundamental skills of a good teacher, is to formulate, articulate and communicate and “you need to relate to students without negative criticism or favoritism thus setting a realistic goal etc which is a challenging task.”

To the students he had these words: “My dear students, you are our future leaders and can impact either positively or negatively in society. The choice you make today will have a bearing on what you become tomorrow. You need to realize that the purpose of life is far greater than personal fulfillment, peace of mind, career or even happiness and to be God fearing, respecting parents, elders and teachers.” Also, “to be honest, have good manners and build positive relationship,” he added. Mentioning the recent inauguration of an engineering college and the Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) at Dimapur, the governor said to avail the opportunity of pursuing engineering in own home state.

Feeling privileged to be in LFS, the first school in Nagaland exclusively for girls, the Governor was all praise for it. “…it has produced many prominent and eminent ladies who hold very important place in administration, police, engineers, doctors, social workers and many others. I am also happy to note that the School had secured the First Rank in the Top Ten of HSLC for three consecutive years and Awarded the running Trophy” he lauded and wished the school the best.
