Kohima | June 11 : Higher Education and Urban Development Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu today launched Project Alpha-II and commissioned Project Alpha-I, both novel initiatives of the Kohima Science College Alumni Association.
Project Alpha-I was formally launched last year where college LAN of 100 mbps and high-speed broadband service were operationalized and a total of ten computers installed in the college library reading room. This completed project was formally commissioned by Dr. Shürhozelie today. On the occasion, he also launched project Alpha-II at the project site. This project is for construction of a 50-bedded girls’ hostel.
Addressing the gathering after the formal launching and commissioning, the Minister lauded the Alumni Association of Kohima Science College Jotsoma for their activities and contributions towards their alma mater and for coming forward to share the burden of the government for the welfare of the students, admitting that the state government is unable to provide sufficient funds for college development due to fund constraints.

Pointing out that the college is doing well not only in the state but in the entire northeast, he said the achievements of the college deserve the highest appreciation. This is exactly the type of attitude we need to develop particularly in the field of human development, he said and appealed to all members of the alumni association to come forward with the spirit of family togetherness and strengthen the association as a historical partnership.
Dr. Shürhozelie also expressed satisfaction that whereas Nagaland was a late starter in education, it has been doing well in many respects, pointing to the jump in the literacy rate from 66.59% to 81.11% as per the provisional results published recently. Principal of the college Dr. Vituo Belho chaired the function while MLA and Chairman, NSMDC Kipili Sangtam and Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education, F.P Solo were also present on the occasion.
