The Kiphire District Education Office today organized adolescence girl awareness programme at the EBRC hall with Dr Holiba Anar as resource person which was attended by the government higher secondary school teachers and headmasters.
Welcoming the gathering and giving the keynote address, Deenabandhu Panda, DEO said, “girl child awareness programme is very essential because if we educate a girl we are educating the whole family on the other hand if we educate a men we are educating a single person.”
He said that if girls child are educated today they will become a responsible citizen in the society because they are the mothers of tomorrow and asked the teachers present to be sensitive to the need of the girl child in respective schools. The DEO also added that in earlier days there was huge disparities between boy child and girl child in many areas but today the disparities are narrowing down which is a good progress “but we still need to work harder.”
The DEO called upon the teachers present to give awareness programme in respective schools during assemble and where ever possible so that the awareness reaches to everyone.
Dr Holiba Anar who spoke on adolescence, gave the definition of adolescence and said there are many physical and emotional changes taking place during this time and therefore, asked the teachers to give proper counseling when the students as 1/5th of the country population is under adolescence. Touching on HIV/AIDS he also said, HIV/AIDS scenario is very alarming in the district and is rising and asked the teachers present to create awareness to the students.
The programme was also followed by interaction session. Headmaster Yangphi school proposed vote of thanks, while Redial GT GHS Yangphi chaired the programme.
