Educational Institutions mark Gandhi Jayanti

Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): Marking the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, various educational institutions in Nagaland conducted programmes.  

Nagaland Gandhi Ashram: Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, NIELIT and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, MGAHD, Chuchuyimlang observed Gandhi Jayanti at the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram Complex today.  

I Lanumatong spoke about NGA and its Founder and Sudharshan Rodriguez, Programme Director, TISS, MGAHD, spoke on the principles, values and relevance of Gandhi's life and teaching. The programme was chaired by Temjengangted, Faculty, NIELIT. Gandhiji's life and lessons was elaborated by Munindra Nath Borah, Office Assistant, NIELIT. Zulutemba, Vice Chairman, Urban Station Committee, Chuchuyimlang gave away prizes for art competition.  

TGOUN: The Global Open University Nagaland, Department of Hotel Management and Fashion Technology organised essay, extempore speech and quiz competition based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi and central and state Government welfare schemes, to apprise the students on the duties of Swaach Bharat Abhiyan. About 60 students from both the department participated in the competition. A short speech was delivered by Vice-chancellor, Dr HN Dutta, TGOUN.  

MGM HSS: MGM Higher Secondary School also observed Gandhi Jayanti. B Paul addressed the students and highlighted the principles of Gandhiji and about Swatcchta for personal hygiene and drive for clean habits and clean surrounding. He also discussed the life and footsteps of Gandhiji to enlighten the students about his contribution for the nation. The program followed by a peace rally from school to PWD junction and cleanliness drive where students and teachers took part to create awareness about Swatchta Hi Sewa.  

UCTE: Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur conducted the competition of play on Gandhi commemoration the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today at Seminar hall, UCTE.  

Each class enacted a play on themes reflecting the life of Gandhi and the freedom struggle. 3rd Sem (B) emerged as the winner with their play– The Champaran Satyagraha; 2nd Prize was bagged by 1st Sem (B) on the theme – Untouchability and religious tolerance; The 3rd position was secured by the 1st Sem (A) and 3rd Sem (A) on the themes- ‘Serendipity in Mahatma’s Life’ and ‘Be the Change’ respectively.
