Mon, May 1 (MExN): With excessive rain partially washing away the temporary passage constructed parallel to Pongma Bridge, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), Mon Division, Er C Chinglang Konyak has informed commuters that heavy vehicles will not be allowed along the stretch to ensure the safety of all road users.
Additionally, the alternative route is via the 'very weak' old Pongma Bridge, where only light vehicles, including mini buses, will be permitted to ply. Heavy laden vehicles carrying essential commodities and construction materials have been advised to take the alternate route from Mon to Dimapur or vice versa, passing through Mon-Wakching-Tamlu-Merangkong-Changtongya-Mokokchung-Wokha-Kohima-Dimapur.
The EE further requested commuters to bear with the inconveniences until the bridge is maintained and strengthened to carry heavier loads. On Tuesday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tizit, Zhoi Lohe, informed all transporters and travelers (heavy vehicles) to avoid the road until the temporary bridge is restored.
