A week long Oil and Gas fortnight 2013 got start here today under the aegis of Indian Oil Corporation to generate mass awareness for saving petroleum and to protect the environment.
The fortnight to go on until January 31 will be marked by various safety and awareness among the public, save fuel and LPG safety clinic, painting and quiz competition amongst school children and a special Oilcon Quiz for guests.
The launching programme of the fortnight took place at Hotel Cimorb with Commissioner and Secretary for land resources, Menukhol John as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, he stressed that the movement for Oil Conservation should not be restricted to only a fortnight , but should be carried forward by all the citizens of the country throughout the year.
Also speaking on the occasion, H.Lungalung, joint secretary FCS & CA requested all the Retail Outlet Dealers and LPG Distributorships to be role models for conservation activities and to take initiative in disseminating the message of conservation amongst the public.
He said that it is the duty of the present generation to start conserving the precious and scarce fossil fuels, so that the future generations can live a life of convenience and the human race can continue the pace of modernity.
S.Chakravarty, Divisional Retail Sales Manager, Tinsukia Integrated Divisional Office, Indian Oil Corporation Limited cum State Level Co-ordinator, MOP&NG, Nagaland briefed the gathering about the history of the Oil Conservation movement under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and need for the conservation of the precious fossil fuels for the posterity.
Efficient use of the scarce resources is the need of the hour now as there is huge outgo of the country’s foreign exchange in importing petroleum products in to the country, which counts to about 70% of the nation’s total petroleum requirement, he said.
Highlighting on the various activities that would be undertaken during the fortnight, Chakravarty informed that painting and quiz competitions for propagation of the concept of Oil Conservation amongst school children; Safety Clinics for LPG amongst housewives and College girls; Transporters Meet; Workshop on fuel conservation in Transport sector and Industrial sector; cycle rallies etc will be conducted for mass awareness of the conservation movement among the public.
Z.Lhungdim, Senior Depot Manager, Dimapur Depot, Indian Oil Corporation Limited also sought cooperation from each individual and state government to make the fortnight a grand success in Nagaland.
