IDWG Meet cum Review Workshop on New Extension Reforms (ATMA) & Innovative Award was held today her at Japfu Hotel which was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, New Extension Reforms Unit, Government of India and organised by State Nodal Office, Directorate of Agriculture Kohima Nagaland.
Exhorting the gathering, HK Khulu IAS, APC Chairman, IDWG & Principal Secretary, Agriculture, said, recognition of citations and cash prizes does not matter much but it’s the effort that every progressive farmers and workers put into. Principal Secretary also stated that handing over the prizes will give sense of satisfaction in their respective department.
As per the information issued by state nodal office, the best ATMA is a prize adjudged by the state nodal Agency on the overall performance of the cafeteria of activities by the district ATMA(s) which carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakh to develop and promote competitive extension activities among ATMA districts besides infusing motivation. The recognition was based on the achievements of the entrepreneurs. The best ATMA district for the year 2008-09 & 09-10 was awarded to ATMA district of Kohima and Mokokchung.
Under Innovative category, HITS-RIPDA-RIHAMPS Project, Nuiland Hovshivi Inato Trustees for rural Indigenous People Development Agency was founded by Dr. H.I Jimoni on March 2, 2007 with the objective of providing multidimensional transformational activity to Rural and indigenous communities under the Motto “Privilege for the unprivileged” with bottom up approach. During 2008-09, eight villages were adopted benefiting 155 farming households.
For Bee (Innovative category) rearing Technique (Mima Village), it uses indigenous method of underground beekeeping which has been in existence since time immemorial that has earned its reputation for its unique technique where the bee hives are constructed underground. Indigenous Aqueduct Audio Visual Shoo (IAAVS) (Innovative category) is an innovative low cost simple device by harnessing nature energy resources besides user-friendly that could be propagated in various pockets of wet terrace paddy cultivation areas of the state.
‘Seinuokho’ Sapling Carrier (Innovative category) is an indigenous sapling carrier locally designed by Imnaluin Longkumer of Ungma Village who is an Agriculture Officer at SARS, Yisemyong and has been professionally associated with tools and labour management since 1992.
Off-season Indigenous Cultivation (Innovative category) Burremba Pongen, at 63 years is one of the most progressive farmer of Aliba village, started the off season cucumber cultivation technique way back in 1985 with the objective of earning higher income who is also involved in demonstrations under the ‘learning by doing’ extension methodology and his income on an average ranges from Rs. 50,000/- to 75,000/- depending on the climatic and seasonal effect.
Sawo Cardamom Drier and freezer Sawo (Innovative category) is made of wooden and aluminum sheet only and are available in three designs, kitchen, single and double Sawo. This indigenous and innovative design was built by Chotisuh Sazo & Tavesu Vadeo of Phek District. LIC ATMA (PPP Category): Kohima ATMA for establishing partnership with Southern Angami Potato farmers Association, Agriculture development.
Tuensang ATMA for establishing Farm School at Sangsangyu in the Piggery Farm of the Farmerb - Teacher for transfer of technology. Mon ATMA for establishing a Farm School at Tuimei in the Farmer-Teacher Farm. Wokha ATMA, awarded for providing training and exposure trip and demonstration to sugarcane farmers of Phiro in value addition to sugarcane in partnership with horticulture Department. Mokokchung ATMA is recognised for promoting partnership mode to farmers of Yimli by establishing a Farm School at the farmer-teacher backyard dairy farm.
