EICA Hosts First-Ever ‘Flavours of Northeast’ Culinary Festival

EICA officials along with the participants of the ‘Flavours of Northeast’ Culinary Festival.

Dimapur, February 6 (MExN): The Eastern India Culinary Association (EICA) organised “Flavours of Northeast,” a two-day cooking competition and panel discussion on ethnic cuisines of Northeast India, from January 30-31, marking a first for the region.

The event aimed to foster dialogue, inspire young chefs, and celebrate the diversity of indigenous food traditions. Eminent chefs, including Chef Manjit Gill, President IFCA; Chef Sudhakar Rao, Director, Culinary Association of India; Chef Atul Lahkar of Assam; Chef Abhiru Biswas, President EICA; and Chef Rangonath Mukherjee, Treasurer EICA, attended, adding national prominence to the initiative.

Institutional support from NIPS Shillong and IAM Guwahati was acknowledged for strengthening culinary education and industry collaboration. Highlights included live demonstrations of regional cuisines. Chef Joel Basumatari, Vice President EICA Northeast, showcased Nagaland cuisine with Lee Kum Kee support, while Chef Pradip presented Manipuri cuisine with Nestlé backing, demonstrating techniques and regional flavours.

EICA expressed gratitude to all participants, especially Chef Basumatari, for their commitment to promoting Northeast indigenous cuisine. The association said initiatives like these would provide recognition, respect, and a global platform for the region’s culinary heritage.
