Couple, aged 93 and 79, beat COVID-19 in Nagaland

Globally, elderly patients are considered to be at high risk of fatality from COVID-19, due to many factors, including pre-existing medical conditions. 

But there was good news from Nagaland on Saturday as an elderly couple has recovered from the infections at the COVID-19 hospital in District Hospital Phek, according to state health officials.

The unnamed couple was discharged in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Phek and Superintendent of Police, Phek on August 8.

According to the state Nodal officer for COVID-19, the husband aged 93 and his wife, aged 79, tested negative today.

Principal Director, H&FW, Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie also informed that the couple successfully recovered from the COVID-19 hospital in District Hospital Phek and were discharged on August 8.

The development brought much cheers to the public and huge relief and hope to the health authorities as most of the COVID fatalities in Nagaland have mostly been the elderly so far.

COVID-19 patients above the age of 60, globally, are generally categorised as "high-risk" group.
