Our Correspondent Kohima | February 14 The Electrical Colony Sub Council and Electrical Colony Youth Organization Kohima in its joint meeting on February 13 last have resolved not to entertain any proxy voters. “We are against proxy voters and unregistered/non-resident of the colony to disturb the smooth and normal exercise of adult franchise in our colony,” stated Electrical Colony Sub Council chairman Zevihol Kin and Electrical Colony Youth Organization president Anu Sorhie. In this, the council and youth body in its endeavour to maintain a peaceful and smooth conduct of the election process had appeal to all the intending candidates not to patronize any proxy voters or outsiders at the Polling Station No. 36. “Such unfair malpractices have produced unwanted incidences which tantamount to snatching away the democratic rights of citizens. Proxy voters go to the insulting extent of stealing even legally registered voters names,” it stated. It informed that the council and youth body will strictly adhere and monitor and defaulters will be accountable for any unwanted incidents. Further, it appealed to the authorities concerned to collaborate with them “as we are both beneficial partners for a free, fair and peaceful conduct of the election.”
