Kiphire | May 21 : Caught in the confusion of May 21 hoax about the rapture, the citizens of Kiphire last night witnessed another major incident. A major fire broke out at the heart of Kiphire town on Friday night at around 12:45 am. Except for minor burns, no causality was reported though property worth crore was damaged. According to source, the fire broke was caused by short electricity circuit.
During the unfortunate incident, five commercial building belonging to R. L Akumba, ex MLA and the godown of a grocery shop were burned down. The fire lasted for about two hours.
Risking their lives brave citizens, paramilitary, DEF Kiphire, IRCS members, District Administration and well-wishers brought down the fire stopping it from further spreading to nearby buildings.
This is the third major fire incident which happened at Kiphire in a span of few month this year. It can mentioned here that the state government has not provide even a single fire tender to Kiphire district even after reporting such major disasters through print media now and again. Citizens are left with no option but to continue being on their own guard and depending on self to face such disasters.
