Elvis Nite – Remembering the King of Rock n Roll

Members of Hunting Boots Inc., the Cosmos Hall Management, Naga Idol winner Renbeni and Naga Idol finalist Shyran Chang at the Cosmos Hall Lounge after interacting with media persons on Tuesday.

The Hunting Boots Inc., Mokokchung in collaboration with the Cosmos Hall Management will be organizing ‘Elvis Nite – Remembering Elvis’ on the 17th of August, 2011 evening, at Cosmos Hall. The organizers of the event said that the Elvis Nite is not “some commemoration thing but a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll.”
“We acknowledge that Elvis is not popular among the younger generation,” said Temsu Jamir of the Hunting Boots Inc.. He said that organizing the event is not just for remembering Elvis Presley but “we thought of keeping a heritage of Mokokchung alive.” According to him, Mokokchung is the center of pop music scene in Nagaland. He admitted that the Elvis Nite is being organized “on personal preferences and as a tribute to Mokokchung and its pop culture.”
Coincidentally, August 16 happens to be the death anniversary of the all-time favourite singer Elvis Presley. This is the 6th time that the Hunting Boots Inc. is organizing the event. The Inc. says that they organize the event on any given date in the month of August each year. They also want to “create a fan base” of the late legendary musician by organizing the event. They even make the ambitious claim: to make Mokokchung the “Mecca of Elvis fans” where they hope to see Elvis fans not only from Nagaland but from the entire Northeast India region flocking to Mokokchung to witness Elvis events in the future.
The Elvis Nite scheduled for August 17, however, is on an entry-by-invitation basis only. “We have invited all the regular Elvis fans,” the organizers say. Several local artistes will be performing at the event, including Squadron lead vocals L.Wati Imchen, Naga Idol winner Renbeni as well as Imliakum, Atsüngla and Shyran Chang. Graceland Harmony will do the back-up choir while some old timers in the face of Seasonal Club and the MDACC are also expected to perform.
Meanwhile, Bendang Walling, Cosmos Hall Management, said that organizing the event in collaboration with the Hunting Boots Inc. is an honour and added that “offering platform for young people is realizing our dreams.”
Renbeni, who is already camping in Mokokchung along with Shyran Chang also said that it is always her pleasure to come to Mokokchung and that she finds delight in anything the Hunting Boots does. Saying that she did not listen to Elvis but “grew up with Elvis around,” Renbeni backed the words of Moa Imsong of the Hunting Boots Inc. that every musician must go back in time and learn Elvis’ songs of many genres. She also added that all of Elvis’ songs are “testimonies” and that it has been a fun filled learning process for her. “Hope that this event becomes a yearly event,” she said, and even suggested an Elvis Presley carnival to “bring Elvis back to life.”
Dr. Nicky Kire will be the chief guest of the event and it is learnt that he along with his family members and friends are expected to perform some Elvis numbers as well.
