‘Embrace and imbibe the culture of hard-work and truth’

41st General Conference of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang begins

The 41st General Conference of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (AKTM) got underway at Sungratsu village today with more than 400 delegates from the different villages under Asetkong range and also other AKTM units attending it.  

The general conference which is being held on the theme: ‘The past in our present’ has the Principal of City Law College Dimapur, P Leonard Aier as the main speaker, and a host of dignitaries slated to grace the conference as guests and invitees.  

Formally inaugurating the general conference, Dr Maongwati Aier, IAS, Secretary to the Government - PHED, strongly exhorted the student delegates to embrace and imbibe the culture of hard-work and truth, which he said were so prevalent among the Naga forefathers. He pointed out that the Naga society is in shambles, adding that just like the prophet Nehemiah in the Bible, the Naga people also need to be like Nehemiah to rebuild our society for a better future.  

In this regard, he said that the task of rebuilding the fallen walls of the Naga society cannot be the work of an individual, but a collective effort. He therefore called for unity among the people, to have the spirit of sacrifice and truthfulness. He categorically urged the students to have good moral value while seeking education, stating that one’s education would be useless to the society if one does not have moral values in their lives.  

Sungratsu Students’ Union presented the curtain raiser, while the Chairman of Sungratsu Village Council, M Teka Longchar delivered the welcome address. Short speeches were also delivered by the presidents of the Ongpangkong Students Conference, Jangpetkong Students’ Conference, and Tsurangkong Students’ Conference. The Kubulong Kaketshir Telongjem presented a special song.  

Meritorious Awards were also given to successful students who achieved excellence in the academic fields.  

On Thursday, the Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, S Chuba Longkumer will be the chief guest at the main prgramme that starts at 9:00 am. The 41st General Conference of AKTM will conclude on Friday, January 12, 2016.
