Embracing Unity through Elderly Citizens: In Pictures
Friendship Old Age Home in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dimapur and the NCD, CMO Office, commemorated International Older Person’s Day with a programme held on October 1 at the Home’s premises in Hill View Colony, Dimapur. District Program Officer, NCD, CMO Office, Dimapur, Dr Lhishielo spoke on the health and well-being of the elderly. Special guest, EAC Dimapur, Litsenthung Kikon, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of providing care and compassion to senior citizens, acknowledging their contributions to society. The 2011 census of Nagaland reported that there were 139,494 elderly people in the state, which was 7% of the total population, he noted. He also said that, the elder citizens are a vital part of our society, offering invaluable wisdom, experience, and perspective.
Chüketshe Society Khezhakeno (CKS) observed the International Day of Older Persons on October 1 at Village Council Hall Khezhakeno, with the theme ‘Embracing Unity through Elderly Citizens.’ Altogether 32 out of the total 74 persons (aged 80 years and above) attended the programme from both Khezhakeno and Tepfulomi villages. Medovilie Ladu, Jt Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland was the speaker.Department of Social Welfare, Longleng celebrated International Day of Older Persons at district level under the theme ‘Ageing with Dignity’ with EAC Longleng, Imkongnukla Ao as the special guest on October 1 at VDB hall Longleng. The department awarded C Kampong and Yimsha phom, for their contribution to the people and the Society. The International Day of Older Persons 2024 under the theme ‘Aging with dignity’ was observed at IMDH, Mokokchung organised by NP-NCD Mokokchung in collaboration with IMDH, Mokokchung. In the occasion T Temsusenla Aier, Principal School of Nursing, IMDH, addressed the significant of the day. Dr Limanaro DIO & NP-NCD i/c delivered the overview of the programme, where she stated that the day is observed to give respect to the elder persons. Health care of the elderly was delivered by Dr Lipokyanger, Ophthalmologist, IMDH. Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS graced the International Day of Older Persons celebration as the special guest at Mon. L Moba, from Ukha Village and A. Paüwaü Jessuhu, of Kongan Village were felicitated by the District Welfare Office with certificate for their contributions to the society. To show love and appreciation, gifts (blankets) were presented to the older people present at the programme. Medical Officer, Wakching, Dr Chingyen, shared on health and hygiene. A medical camp for older people was organised by the Department of Health & Family Welfare through the Chief Medical Officer, Mon. Dr Kekhrie Sophie, SMO highlighted on the importance of Health Promotion and Awareness on Geriatric Health Issues and Non Communicable Diseases. Sunupienla, Psychiatric Social Worker shared about the mental health issues in old ageOffice of the Chief Medical Officer Phek observed International Day of Older Persons under the theme “Ageing with Dignity: The importance of Strengthening Care and support System for Older Persons” on October 1 at CMO, Conference hall, Phek. Dr Shasinle Tep DPO (NCD) gave the keynote address, Nikou Koza Clinical Psychologist DH Phek shared about mental health issues. After the programme, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening for the older persons were also conducted where all the participants have availed the services. The NCD screenings were carried out by Khosalu Counsellor NCD, Wekhope-u S/N NCD and Kulusi Trakha S/N NCD from DH Phek. International Day for Older Persons was celebrated under the theme, ‘Ageing with Dignity’ at Town Hall, Tuensang on October 1 with DC Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as the special guest. Keynote address was delivered by DWO Tuensang, T Longlang Luckpan while Dr Tehrilila Sangtam shared on healthy aging and physiotherapy. Speech on behalf of senior citizens was shared by Rev L Ben Chang and a special prayer for the elderly persons was pronounced by President TTBPU, L Ongmang Chang. Distinguished District award was presented to Rev L Ben Chang and Thsangchila. A free medical camp was also organised by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Tuensang on the occasion. The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Tuensang in collaboration with United Tribal of Elders, Leaders Union. International Day of Older Persons under the theme ‘Ageing with Dignity’ was observed at Dr Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMDH) Wokha on October 1. Dr Aseno Rhetso, District Programme Officer (NCD) Wokha explained on the significance of observing the day. Dr N Mhonchan Kithan, Medical Superintendent DMMDH Wokha emphasised on the importance of regular health check-up in order to prevent various diseases. More than 40 beneficiaries were screened for blood pressure, sugar and free medicines were distributed to them by the health workers.The Senior Citizens’ Association Nagaland Zunheboto District Unit in collaboration with Social Welfare Department and Legal Services Authority Zunheboto, Nagaland, celebrated its 17th session for International Day of Older Persons at VDB hall Zunheboto on October 1. During the programme, District Awards were honoured to K Vikuto Zhimomi and Kughani P Shohe.
