Basing on motto of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), “Deeds not Words,” Youth Resources & Sports Advisor, Er Zale Neikha called upon the people to emphasize on ‘action plan’ rather than ‘paper plan’ to bring forth development and change in the state.
Speaking at the introductory programme organized by Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports on May 3, Er Neikha stressed on the need to maintain the concept of work ethics basically on the ethical principles of regularity, punctuality, responsibility and accountability.
Challenging the officers and staff of the department to inculcate the principles of planning, cooperation, accountability and transparency, he said “Let us not just sit back and relax on our executive chairs. It is time to change our attitude of red-tapism and delay, but motivate ourselves to shoulder the responsibility and bring about a revolution in the department and in the field of sports as well.”
“Let us not be restrained by failures but set ourselves targets to achieve and accomplish the challenges we faces,” said.
Er Neikha also assured to streamline the department in a proper functional manner and called upon the officers and staff of the department to work together and push the department forward. He said he will soon meet the different units separately to frame a comprehensive strategy towards promotion of sports and youth activities in the state. He informed that the state government is spearheading a series of events to mark the 100th birth anniversary of legendary footballer late Dr. T. Ao this year. He said the detail programme of the celebration will be fixed after the first sitting with the state level committee. Er. Neikha asked the concerned officers to stay alert for the preparation and conduct of the programmes.
‘Nagas are athletic by nature’ Er. Neikha said that Nagas are athletic by nature and the love for sports we have has inclined us to competently grasp multiple disciplines rather than specializing on one.
In order to improve the access to professionalism, he said “we will encourage the youths particularly the upcoming sportsmen to pursue their career, by way of mastering a particular discipline which will be best suited to him or her.”
He told the gathering that during his recent visit to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, meeting with union minister Col. R. S. Rathore and respective secretaries, they all have given assurance to take up projects on sports infrastructure to promote games and sports and programme on youth activities.
Tournament for differently abled persons
Referring to Special Olympic programme wherein he attended along with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in Dimapur on April 6 last, Er. Neikha said that CM has given assurance to help and promote the differently abled persons in the field of games and sports. On the same note, he assured to work and uplift sports to boost the morale of sportspersons and also to lay special emphasis for differently abled persons by initiating suitable activities and tournament for these special people.
NSS, NCC, BSG, MTF, engineering wing shares concern
Anenla. S. Longchari, Commissioner & Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports expressed hoped that under the leadership of E. Zale Neikha, the department will go forward much better than “what we are today.” She urged the officers and staff to support him by exercising the team spirit.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) in its presentation stated that the state has 9300 volunteers in 67 educational institutions across the state. It stressed on the need to enhance the strength of volunteers and budgetary provision as well. National Cadets Corps (NCC) covered 120 educational institutions with over 9000 cadets. Here too, the need to address inadequate infrastructure has been brought to the notice of the Advisor.
Nagaland State Bharat & Scouts & Guides in its presentation stated that Er. Zale Neikha would soon be inducted as president of Bharat & Scouts & Guides.
Engineering wing prayed for increasing the strength of manpower for smooth execution of technical works in the state. The activities of Music Task Force (MTF) were also highlighted at the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by YR&S director Imtirenla Jamir while additional director Rato Pusa proposed vote of thanks.
