Wokha, November 27 (MExN): Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao schemes, the Wokha District Administration in collaboration with National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) SHGs organized a one day training programme on paper bag making at VDB & VCC conference Hall, Wokha on November 27.
DIPR stated in a report that resources persons from Phek Town Youth Society led by team leader Seyiengoi Soho, Nuyi Hoshi and Mulekho Chuzo trained the participants. Altogether 67 women trainees took part during the paper bag training programme. The project was initiated under ‘Clean Green Operation Phek’ informed the team leader.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, while addressing the trainees said, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was launched in Wokha district in the month of October 2018 in Wokha district and this one such initiative to empower the girls and to give opportunity to earn livelihood and self sufficient through such kind of trainings.
The DC also added to do away with the use of plastic bags and to promote local products such as paper and bamboo bags this kind of trainings is started to give opportunities to girls and women folks to make them economically independent and self reliant. Stating Wokha district being having a bigger marketing avenue it has high potential of promoting the locally made paper bags and said that through these initiatives the use of plastics bags will be discouraged.
The DC also urged all the trainees to take interest and take part in the training seriously for the success of the programme. Dr. Manazir also thanked the resources person for taking out their time to impart training to the people of the district.
The resource person while interacting with the trainees said whatever experiences and ideas they have learned will be shared to them and urged them to be serious because it will definitely benefit them in the future. They also informed that to do away with the use of plastic bags they started the initiative in the year 2016 which was officially launched in the month of October 2017 since then they have been actively promoting this project and since the launching of the project (Paper Bag) use of plastic bags was completely banned and declared plastic free zone, and expressed happiness as their project was successful through this small initiatives.
With the intention of the Government of Nagaland to ban use of plastic bags they want to support the Government through their small initiative for the success of the same. While giving demonstration on paper making one of the resource persons encouraged the trainees to be dedicated and learn with sincerity as this is not only low cost project but profit oriented initiative as materials are easily and readily available.
They also urged the trainees to appeal the commercial unions in the district to make use of the locally finished products instead of bringing from other district. ‘Clean Green Operation Phek’ is a voluntary organization which has now 12 full time workers and makes up yo 20 to 30 thousand paper bags in a day.
The materials during the training were provided by District Administration under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
