Encroachment on highway between Dimapur-Chumu

• Chakhroma G.Bs’ Union cautions landowners

• No compensation for dismantling structures

• Appeal not to dump building materials along the highway

Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The Chakhroma G.Bs’ Union has expressed deep concern to observe the random encroachment of the highway between the Dimapur-Chumukedima stretch and erecting concrete structures by private individual without adhering to the government’s notification to leave a space of 30 feet from the road.

It is being observed that some buildings are constructed “so close to the road” that there is hardly any space left for drainage, resulting in early erosion of the roads.

Even though the 4 lane highway project has been diverted to another route, the programme for widening of the present highway is still in the pipeline, Chakhroma GB’s Union, President, Thepfukedo Kuotsu stated in a press release.

The Union, therefore caution the landowners that in the event of the widening of the highway, those structures that are within the ear marked area will be dismantled and there will be no compensation for the same, which will be causing great lose to the landowners. Hence, the land owners are advised to make provision for future road expansion while undertaking construction works along the highway.

The Union also made a fervent appeal to all concerned not to dump building materials and other goods along the highway to ensure smooth flow of traffic. It is seen that some building materials such as stones, bricks and sand etc are dumped near the highway and left unattended for months. This is creating road congestion and even causes accidents in certain cases. Therefore, the public within the jurisdiction of Dimapur-Chumukedima are requested to remove such materials at the earliest after unloading on the road side.

“The G.Bs’ Union, keeping in mind, the welfare of everyone, makes this appeal to all concerned hoping for co-operation from all. However, if this appeal is not heeded, and if deemed necessary, the Union may also be compelled to initiate steps for the welfare of the people within its jurisdiction,” the Union added.
