DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): The second day of the third phase agitation called by the Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) was held peacefully across eastern Nagaland on October 6. The third phase of the agitation began on October 5, with the union demanding allocation of 4 MBBS seats reserved for BTs to the BT candidates with regard to the NSEE results 2016.
On the first day of the agitation, ENCSU volunteers confiscated 13 government vehicles from Mon, 4 from Tuensang, 4 from Longleng and 1 from Longkhim.
A press note from the ENCSU lamented that even after 76 days of “asking for due share and demanding justice the government ignored the grievances of the backward people.” Terming the government’s treatment of this issue as “intolerable” the ENCSU affirmed that it would not call off the agitation until the government meets its demands. The ENCSU informed that as part of the agitation, the prohibition on movement of government vehicles has been extended and will continue until the protest is called off. It further stated that no “confiscated vehicle” will be released. It directed all government offices to close down with the exception of emergency services, medical team, district administration, security forces, students appearing end semester exams and candidates and officials on NPSC prelim exam 2016 duty at Tuensang and Mon centres. It however warned officials against using official vehicles during off duty.
It further cautioned that the union would resort to “harsh agitation” to the extent of calling a total bandh across Eastern Nagaland if the government fails to respond positively.
