DIMAPUR, JULY 10 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU) today condemned the move by Naga political groups wanting to siphon off funds meant for students welfare from the Department of Higher and Technical Education (H&TE).”
A press release from the ENCSU media cell expressed surprise to learn that the Department of Higher and Technical Education is “not left out of the taxation by the underground groups knowing the fact that it is not a revenue generating Department.”
“Demanding the taxation to this department is just like a demanding to their own children or students,” the ENCSU stated.
It appealed to the Naga political groups to “reconsider taxing or interfering with the Department of Higher and Technical Education.
There is simply no excuse to disrupting the benefits of the student community who are the future leaders of our society.”
Meanwhile, appreciating what it termed were “the many good changes happening in the Department,” the ENCSU urged the department to be “clean, transparent, honest and judicious in handling the funds meant for students and college infrastructural development in the state.”
The union reiterated its stand in “safeguarding and protecting the rights and future of the students' community.”
It further asked the State Government to understand the voice of students.
