ENCSU slams ‘manipulative’ govt policy on scholarship disbursement

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 4 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU) has asked the Department of Higher Education to refrain from framing “incommode & inconvenience” policy on the scholarship disbursement issue.

A press note from the ENCSU lamented that the department instead of addressing the issue effectively is asking the students to make a call “which is nothing but reflects the incapability of the Department to deal the matter.”

“Interestingly, the call is just to ask bank passbook which the students had actually submitted,” the ENCSU informed, while reminding that the scholarship program is not meant for “few frogs in the pond to misuse to satisfy their selfish desire but it is exclusively for students' welfare and students grant in aid from the center.”

The ENCSU noted that the department “after blaming the banking institutions for delaying to credit the first quarter (installment) in students' account, now the department is asking to resubmit photocopy of students bank passbook which is causing numerous problems and anxiety to the students.”

The union pointed out that “the condition and situation of the students from far flung and especially students studying outside Nagaland will be unsound and will have to compromise with their due share with the reason that they couldn't resubmit the documents as asked by the Department.”

“Therefore, such manipulative policy must not prevail in the institution like Higher Education Department,” it noted. “The department instead of working to minimize further troubles had once again created a policy to torture students mentally and physically. Such unwise and unfriendly policy is a matter of great concern and should be discarded from being implemented at the maximum,” it added.

It is high time, the ENCSU stated, the department realizes that Higher Education Department is not confined only to Dimapur and Kohima but it covers entire state.

It meanwhile reminded the state government of its earlier demand that the scholarship be disbursed within seven days counting from November 1, and appealed to the concerned students to “stay mentally & physically prepared to face any harsh situation in the event of failing to fulfill our demands.”
