Enhance your academic performance, NLA Speaker urge students

Sechuma, Jan 31 (MExN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie today called upon the students’ community to enhance the level of their academic performance in order to accomplish their desired destination.

Addressing the 37th general conference of Western Angami Students Union (WASU) here under the theme “Shaping destinies”, Peseyie asserted that students will not be in a position to cope with the competitive world unless they take ‘vibrant and broad decisions’. 

Stating that they are the hope of tomorrow, the Speaker encouraged the students to endeavor hard  with strong determination so as to become responsible citizens.

Stressing on the importance of time-management, the Speaker  also advised the students to use time appropriately, adding that this would play as a major factor in their journey towards excellence. He also advised the students to avoid bad habits by refraining themselves from using alcohol and drugs.

Touching on the alarming trends of HIV/AIDS in the state, he called upon student organizations to render a concerted effort and fight against the menace.

“Unless we take a remedial measure, it would ravage the entire society,” he warned. 

Also, admitting that job opportunities in the government sector has reached a saturation point, he encouraged them to involve in various self-employment enterprises.

The Speaker later donated Rs. 30,000 to the WASU fund.

Earlier, the inaugural function was chaired by Neivilhoutuo Sechu, General Secretary of WASU while Toulie Sechu, pastor of Baptist Church, Sechuma, said the invocation.

A welcome speech was delivered by President of Sechuma Students Union while WASU President Sedevituo Meyase delivered the Presidential Address. The Angami Students Union (ASU) also shared a message of greetings.  A word of gratitude was delivered by Khrieto Nisa.

Cultural and literary competitions, an election and a business hour also marked the conference.

Later, Rajuselie Lhousa, Chairman of Culturedguard Mezoma exhorted the gathering at a cultural session while Visieno Talie, Principal of Alderville School, Kohima graced the valedictory function as the guest of honour.
