Kalyani, August 11 (MExN): ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani hosted a training and interaction programme aimed at enhancing animal husbandry practices among Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers from Nadia district on August 7.
The event, organised by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland in collaboration with ICAR-NDRI, Eastern Region Station, Kalyani, West Bengal, was designed to equip local farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills essential for profitable and sustainable animal husbandry, stated a press release received here.
Dr Santanu Banik, Head of ERS at ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, delivered welcoming address, and the training programme was inaugurated by Dr Girish Patil, Director of NRC-Mithun.
The schedule included a series of insightful lectures and practical sessions led by esteemed scientists. Topics covered included the management of kid and pregnant doe, suitable breeds of goats and cattle for profitable animal husbandry, and nutritional management strategies for cattle and goats, emphasizing the importance of proper feeding practices.
The final segment of the programme featured the distribution of elite female goats and mineral mixtures to SC farmers, followed by a valedictory function. The Director of NRC-Mithun, along with the Head and other staff from ICAR-NDRI-ERS, Kalyani, presided over the distribution. Altogether 150 participants (105 men and 45 women) received resources to support their farming efforts. A total of 85 elite goats and mineral mixtures were distributed.
