Enhancing employability skills of students

Jalukie, March 7 (MExN): With an aim to explain whether an employability skills development intervention programme enhances the employability skills of under graduate students, North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) conducted a three-day workshop on ‘Enhancing employability skills among the student youth’ at St Xavier College, Jalukie. 36 students attended the workshop held from February 8 to 10.  

The participants in the workshop, which was facilitated by Meriakthule N Chewang, Research Project Staff, NEISSR, were enlightened with eight different employability skills: self branding, career goal setting and execution, time management, communication, decision making, adaptability and collaboration, ability to influence, and digital communication technology.  

A press release informed that the first day flagged off with introduction and orientation about the program by the facilitator and sessions were held on three skills (self branding skill, career goal setting and execution skill, and time management skill). All the participants were guided with a workbook to exercise their learning and motivate their participation level.  

The second day covered the three employability skills (adaptability and collaboration skill, ability to influence skill, and decision making skill). On the third day, the students were equipped with two connecting skills (communication skill and digital communication technology skill).  

The workshop was designed with practical exercises and activities of eight skills, group discussion, group learning, presentation, ice breaking etc. After every session, the students were given opportunity to evaluate and share their learning, the release said. The participants shared that the skills learned during the workshop has enhanced their employability skills and helped them build up their career and change their attitude towards life, it added.  

Stating that the workshop came to a close with dynamic dialogues from participants and facilitator, the press release noted the salient features of the workshop included a pledge to apply the learning in everyday life so as to enhance their knowledge, develop their skills, and become competent and employable.
