Dimapur, July 5 (MExN): The Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) today warned Naga leaders not to get involved in the 21st Panglong Conference on behalf of the Naga nation and people “lest they commit treason against the nation.”
A press release from ENNG Home Minister, Khong Wong Mossang asserted that Nagas had been living as free and independent people and at no point of time they conceded to join either Burma or Indian Union. “The Naga had no knowledge of the Panglong agreement which was signed in 1947 and neither knew Burman people or Burma country in those days. And also the Burmans did not know about the Nagas,” it stated.
It mentioned that it was in 1953, the Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru and Prime Minister of Burma, U Nu agreed to divide Nagaland by India and Burma without the knowledge of Naga people following the cursory boundary drawn by the British. “Hence, the newly independent Burma sent her armed forces to Eastern Nagaland in order to colonize the Nagas.”
ENNG further pointed out that the Nagas undauntedly resisted the aggressor by forming the Eastern Naga Revolutionary Council (ENRC) and defended the sovereignty of Nagaland. And till date, it maintained, the Nagas are unyieldingly defending their sovereignty.
“The Naga people love peaceful co-existence with the neighbouring countries, but they cannot afford their land to be occupied by sheer military force of the aggressors. As the Nagas had been vigorously resisted, the aggressor is now attempting to swallow the Eastern Nagaland by means of agreement called 21st century Panglong Conference,” ENNG stated.
