Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): The Eastern Nagas National Worker Union (ENNWU) today expressed “deepest resentment” against the Assam Rifles for conducting raids on the residences of Royemchu, Toivi Aye and Tia.
The residence of Royemchu, Deputy Secy. and Finance In-charge of Tuensang, at Naga Goan (Signal Angami), Dimapur was raided on May 6 while the residences of Toivi Aye, Steering Committee Member, and Tia, Joint Secretary, NSCN/GPRN were raided in the wee hours of May 13 in Purana Bazaar ‘B’ and Notun Basti, Dimapur respectively.
“The 32 AR had raided in their private residences which had spread fear psychosis amongst the innocent children and helpless women,” the union stated in a press release while calling on all peace loving citizens to condemn the “nuisance acts” of AR.
Terming it “unprovoked aggressions” towards the Naga leaders, the ENNWU called on the Assam Rifles to “immediately cease vitiating the present peaceful atmospheres” by withholding all forms of harassments and tortures.
While stating that the NSCN continues to “exercise maximum tolerance”, the union maintained that this “positive attitude” of the NSCN should in no way be taken as weakness.
Pointing to the Framework Agreement, the union stated that it was signed between two entities and needs to be “upheld and honored” so as to safeguard and maintain cordial relationship.
Further accusing the AR of “unleashing tortures and harassments” on innocent people in blatant violation of the Ceasefire Ground Rules, the ENNWU charged the Assam Rifles of playing double roles while proclaiming themselves to be “Friends of the hill people”. This has gravely disrupted the congenial peaceful atmosphere, the union maintained.
In this regard, the ENNWU urged the concerned authorities to release the apprehended members along with the seized legal documents at the earliest.
