A children’s book titled “Enoski and Friends” authored by Sashinungla Nathan and illustrated by Keneisenuo Solo was launched on Tuesday at Aor Coffee, Mokokchung. The book was formally released by Limalenden Longkumer, Publisher and Proprietor of Mokokchung Times.

Hosting the programme, Rongsenchila Longchar described Nathan as a woman with a deep passion for storytelling and a strong commitment towards children’s development. Introducing the author, she said, “Professionally, she has been the administrator of Blossom Pre-School since 2015 and has empowered and inspired many women, including myself.” She added that the book reflects the author’s personal bond with her daughter and carries the potential to encourage parents to rediscover the value of nurturing relationships with their children.

In her address, author Sashinungla Nathan expressed gratitude to those present, for their support. Clarifying that she preferred to be known as a children’s advocate rather than an author, she said, “I simply want to be known as someone who loves children and advocates for them in whatever ways I can.”

Sharing the origin of the story, Nathan said the book was inspired by bedtime stories she created for her first-born daughter. “This story is a legacy and a keepsake for her. As I narrated bedtime stories, I wanted to compile them into something meaningful that she could cherish,” she said. The characters in the book are named after real pets, including “Enoski,” a family dog owned by her cousin.

Nathan stated that the book is targeted at early learners aged between 2½ and 5 years, aiming to address the gap in early childhood literature in the local context. “We have talented writers, but there is limited content specifically for early learners. Their minds absorb values quickly, and this book aims to instill friendship, sharing, caring, and imagination at a young age,” she added. She acknowledged Digiprinters, Mokokchung, for publishing the book locally and thanked Aor Coffee for providing a space that supports community initiatives.

Launching the book, Limalenden Longkumer congratulated the author and commended her dedication to children’s education and entrepreneurship. He highlighted the need for parents to introduce children to books at an early age to help reduce screen time. “Children love books. It depends on how we introduce them. Reading and outdoor activities are effective ways to meaningfully engage children,” he said.

He further underscored the need for more local writers. “When we lack writers, it reflects intellectual deficiency within a society,” he said. “Writers record history, shape societies, and influence generations. We need more secular and intellectual writers, not just theological authors.”

Longkumer called for a collective shift away from mediocrity and encouraged the community to strive for excellence. “No one will come from outside to build Mokokchung for us. Progress depends on us. We must support one another rather than pull each other down,” he stated, urging the community to uplift local talent and initiatives.

Miss Mokokchung 2025, Bendangienla, also delivered a short message, stating that the book evokes childhood memories and can be equally enjoyed by adults.

“Enoski and Friends” is priced at Rs 300 and is now available for purchase.
