ENPO accuse state govt of stalling settlement of FNT

DIMAPUR, APRIL 11 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) on Thursday accused the Nagaland State Government of stalling the settlement of the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) before the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha General Election.

In a revealing statement, the ENPO said it has been made aware that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had handed over the highlights of draft MoS for FNT to the State Government in the month of December 2023, on which it was supposed to given its comments before December 31, 2023.

As per the commitment made by the MHA, Government of India (GoI) to the ENPO, the arrangement of FNT was supposed to settle before the Election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into force.

However, the State Government is yet to give comments on the draft to the GoI- due to which, the FNT could not be materialized before the announcement of EMCC to the Lok Sabha 2024 as committed by MHA, the ENPO alleged in its statement.

Hence, the Eastern Nagaland people took a decision to abstain from election because of the State Government not giving its comments on the highlights of the draft MoS to the GoI which has stalled the settlement of FNT, the ENPO said.

And as consequence, the Eastern Nagaland public had on February 23, 2024 made a resolution at Chenmoho village not to participate in any Central or State election. This ‘Chenmoho Resolution’ was subsequently reaffirmed on March 19, 2024 at Tuensang HQ and then again on April 11 public meeting held at CKS Hall, it stated.

According to the Chenmoho Resolution, the Eastern Nagaland public will not participate in any Central of State election until and unless the issue of granting FNT was resolved by the Government of India.

“We are fully committed to honouring and upholding the Eastern Nagaland public resolution with utmost sincerity,” the ENPO statement read.
