DIMAPUR, AUGUST 7 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) today issued a clarification regarding a news item published by a national news agency under the headline ‘Framework Agreement : Naga society divided over effectiveness,’ which appeared in local dailies on August 7.
A press note from the ENPO General Secretary, Manglang Phom stated that he had received a call from a New Delhi based journalist on July 31, where the latter asked the former’s opinion regarding the Peace Accord signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM).
The ENPO General Secretary clarified that he had responded by saying: “I cannot comment anything on the issue. We have another issue which is a demand for a separate frontier state, and being the General Secretary I am working seriously on this. However, though it is going to lapse one year after the signing of peace accord, we only hope and pray that solution comes to us which is acceptable to all concerned people. Moreover, we are directed not to comment anything on any sensitive issue in good faith.”
The ENPO General Secretary termed it “very unfortunate that a journalist at national level could stoop so low by completely twisting the report/statement aggravating the situation.” It cautioned against twisting statements and confusing the citizens “when the entire Nagas are anxiously waiting, as in how the outcome of the peace talk would be.”
