ENPO expects Nagaland govt to settle border dispute

Dimapur, June 23 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has declared its resolve to urge to the Nagaland government to “urgently” take up the matter of the “so-called border dispute” with the state of Assam.

Urging the government to settle the “problem arising out of the so-called border dispute with particular reference to Ladigarh under Longleng district”, the ENPO, in a press release issued by president Y Mangko Phom and Toshi Wungtung, general secretary and chairman for Border Affairs and Natural Resources Management Committee, stated that the Assam government had earlier objected to the setting up of a polling booth by the state government during the last parliamentary elections 2009.

Pointing out that besides Ladigarh, there are huge tracks of resourceful and highly fertile Naga territory/land along the foothills bordering Assam, the ENPO stated that these were yet to be officially transferred to the state of Nagaland as per the agreement made between the government of India and the people of Nagaland at the time of formation of the state of Nagaland under the 16 Point Agreement. However, the Organization added, its coherent fundamental provisions have also been amended under Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India, and hence Constitutional and Legal”.
