DIMAPUR, JULY 6 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur (ENPUD) has taken exception over the June 29 statement issued by the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) & Chakroma Public Organisation (CPO) opposing appointment of people from ENPO area as nominee in ULB within their jurisdiction.
“Dimapur as a commercial district belongs to all the Naga tribes. No particular tribe has the power or jurisdiction to dictate their will upon anybody within Dimapur district. The immature and unsolicited statement made by WSH & CPO has hurt the sentiments of Eastern Nagaland people in general and the Eastern Nagaland people living in Dimapur in particular and made us feel being treated as unwanted and outcast,” the ENPUD stated in a rejoinder on Saturday.
Citing the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023 Section 10 (3), the ENPUD also contended that as long as that member is an indigenous inhabitant of the State, there are no other specific reasons to bar/ deny a person from being nominated to the ULB including people from ENPO area.
Asserting that the Eastern Nagaland people living in Dimapur are very much aware about the ENPO resolutions, it said the ENPO has not issued any directives and has left the decision to uphold the ‘Chenmoho resolutions’ to the wisdom of the people living outside the ENPO jurisdiction. It also stated that the decision to accept or demand or reject the ULB nominee should be left to the wisdom of the ENPO people living in Dimapur.
The ENPUD, therefore, termed the WSH & CPO’s stance as “highly questionable and exposes its ulterior motives.”
On the two organization calling upon the State Government to refrain from appointing people from ENPO area in their municipalities, the ENPUD has sought clarification from the Nagaland Government “whether the municipalities belongs to them (WSH & CPO) or the state government has constituted it for the welfare and upliftment of all the Nagas living in Dimapur.”
It lamented that Naga leaders, either prominent or new always talk about Naga unity and brotherhood but never walk the talk, and “civil societies functioning with such discriminatory and biased mindset will never bring about Naga unity and create a progressive Naga society.”
Towards this, the ENPUD appealed the WSH & CPO to withdraw their statement made against the people from ENPO area for the sake of Naga unity & betterment of Naga society. “Nobody can claim to be stronger or treat somebody to be weaker if the Naga society has to move forward as one family with one agenda,” it went on to add.
The ENPUD, meanwhile, maintained that it is not involved in any political activities nor has adopted any resolutions to extent support or oppose any particular candidates or parties etc. in any elections.
