ENSA oppose border fencing at Pangsha

‘More than 10,000 Naga students from Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar) will be affected by border fencing’

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 27 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) has opposed the ongoing International border fencing construction at Pangsha village by joint team of India and Myanmar Government.

“Nagas neither have cultural division nor social differences. Since time immemorial, we live as one family despite of India and Myanmar Government to attempt to ‘divide and rule policy’ and our inherent right to live together cannot be stolen,” a press release from ENSA president Reego Shonshei Tangshang and general secretary Jüvsangthong S. Makury stated.

Instead of spending crores of money on constructing walls and putting fencing which divides people, the ENSA has suggested that the government of both the countries to spend the money in establishing educational institutions for students, better road connectivity, commercial hub, etc. so that poor living condition of people in the region would be improved.

It went on to articulate that by erecting border fencing in the heart of Nagas’ soil, the governments of India and Myanmar are not only dividing the Naga brothers but also demolishing the sovereign rights of Nagas to live together in God’s gifted Naga soil.

Also pointing out that more than 10,000 students from Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar) are studying in present Indian state of Nagaland, the ENSA feared that the border fencing would directly hamper the career of the students as it would stop the students from getting education in own homeland because there would be no free movement once the fencing is put up.

Alleging that the “sole idea is to divide our own brothers living within our ancestral land,” the ENSA has vowed to take any step to stop the border fencing and urged every bonafide Nagas to stand up against this movement.

Nagaland Cabinet decides to hold Naga Summit in Feb

The Nagaland State Cabinet meanwhile discussed the boundary fencing issue in a meeting today. A press note from the Commissioner and Secretary to the Nagaland State Chief Minister informed that the cabinet decided to have a Naga Summit in February in Kohima to take up the matter with all Naga tribe Hohos from Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar.
