ENSF condemns Aboi incident; reminds of Tuensang Resolution

Tuensang, June 24 (MExN):The Eastern Nagaland Students' Federation (ENSF) has ‘vehemently condemned’ the Aboi incident wherein personnel of Indian security forces “lost precious lives.”

The ENSF has called on the parties concerned with the incident to “uphold the Tuensang Resolution in letter and spirit, wherein ENPO jurisdiction was declared a peace zone.”

In a press release from ENSF President, Sepili Sangtam, and its General Secretary, Choba Chang, the Federation lamented that “for the past few months, the ENPO jurisdiction has become a battlefield for Naga Political Groups and the security forces.”

“This has only created more sense of insecurity and fear psychosis in the minds of innocent populace, which the Federation cannot afford to let it continue.”

Remaining concerned about the situation within its jurisdiction, the ENSF stated that its main priority is “Peaceful existence and safe environment for its citizens.”

The ENSF thus appealed to all Naga Political Groups and the Security Forces to “maintain maximum restrain from violence, because violence doesn't help any party. Violence only complicates the prevailing situation. Moreover, violence will sabotage the freedom to live without fear in our own homeland.”

‘Be a good facilitator’

Taking serious note of the “rise in violence in Eastern Nagaland,” the Federation asked the Government of Nagaland to “be a good facilitator between the Government of India and the NSCN (K) in the interest of the Nagas.”

Stating that the “frequent outbreak of clashes between the Naga Political Group (NSCN-K) and Security Forces, particularly in Eastern Nagaland is truly concerning,” the ENSF demanded that the Government of Nagaland as a facilitator “should be pragmatic rather than just being resolute and appealing.”

“The GoN should understand that peace is pre-requisite for development and growth as a society and therefore should be sincerely dealt with,” the ENSF maintained.

ENSF appeals NSCN (K)

The Federation also appealed the NSCN (K) to “reconsider its decision and return to peace talks.”

As a student’s organization, the Federation “extends our appeal to our brothers in NSCN (K) to acknowledge the desire of common Nagas to have a peaceful atmosphere as we yearn for solution to our long stranded Naga Political Movement.”

The Federation remained optimistic that “our brothers in NSCN (K) will accept this appeal in good faith.”
