ENSF probe ex-MLAs on quota

Dimapur, February 4 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students Federation takes note of what was stated in an open letter to be a 5-point memorandum forwarded to the Nagaland Governor as far as September 9, last year, over the reservation issue. Responding only much later in a letter received here today, the ENSF also did not mention who forwarded the said memorandum.

In a letter addressed to former legislators Z Obed, K Therie, Yeangphong, Vatsu Meru and Khutovi, the ENSF maintained that the “genuine” demand of six “backward” tribes was fulfilled “after having tried for many years from different governments”. However the “signatories” alleged that the demand was granted for electoral gain. The letter issued by the ENSF through its president YP Chillio claimed that the demand for 25% job reservation is a “social issue” and should not be viewed politically. On the recommendation of the review committee for reservation instituted by the government, the quota was granted and as such, the entire process was done “without application of mind” is “senseless and is viewed as an insult to the review committee” the ENSF stated.

ENSF also claimed that the reservation Policy did not prove beneficial to the six “backward” tribes and that the people in concern had demanded “our rightful share” within the 33% reservation. So acquiring the 25% “at the cost of other backward tribes and minority tribes” is “highly objectionable” the organization stated. The ENSF also queried “which backward tribe have we denied them for their share.” The ENSF had demanded from the “signatories” clarification “to the six tribes” what prompted putting “political color” to a “social issue such as this.” The ENSF even asked the “signatories” to come to the organization’s headquarter at Tuensang and clarify “before any repercussions takes place…”
