Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): An organization of business people called the ‘Entrepreneurs Union’ today urged the Government of Nagaland to expedite what it called the “implementation process” and “give out proper guidelines” for entrepreneurs selected under the State’s ‘Year of Entrepreneurs.’ Entrepreneurs met in Kohima today, and in the meeting held the state government responsible for “not seriously upholding” commitment made in the Year of Entrepreneurs.
A note from the union’s leaders received here today informed of the discussions and proceedings of the meeting. The union expressed concern over what it called the “delay and vague policy” and “categorically blamed the government for not seriously upholding its solemn declaration.”
“One thousand entrepreneurs of Nagaland state selected under the ‘year of entrepreneurs’ as declared by the state government have appealed the chief minister to expedite the implementation process and give out proper guidelines for the selected entrepreneurs,” a note, appended by president Kekhriesetuo Michael and general secretary V. Jasper Sumi, stated.
However, the selected entrepreneurs are appreciative of the Government of Nagaland for initiating the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs,’ and are confident “to take up entrepreneurship as a career, with full confidence and passion after having successfully completed EDP.”
“EDP, which got underway since June 2010, has provided the right kind of motivation, knowledge, enthusiasm and inspiration to undertake the proposals that we have brought forward. Although most of us have already completed EDP, there has not been any appropriate response from neither the government nor the nodal implementing agency,” the note said.
The union has urged the chief minister to “initiate and expedite the process of implementation of YOE for those who have already finished EDP.”
“The declaration of YOE was a landmark decision and ushered in a ray of hope in anticipation for the youths who displayed keen interest in taking up entrepreneurship. The department of Industries and Commerce which came out with the book ‘Guide to Enterprise Promotion’ has stated in the book that the strategy and action plan for YOE would include capacity building and skill development, mentoring and handholding support and financial inclusion. However, no procedural system was mentioned with respect to the selected entrepreneurs,” the union said.
The union has also appealed to ensure transparency in implementation of the program. “With the fate of one thousand people lying in your hands, we would like to request you to ensure transparency during the various stages of implementation of the program. This would ensure that no one feels embittered, as we have as lots of expectations with the outcome of YOE,” the note stated.
