DIMAPUR, MARCH 31 (MExN): A training programme - ‘Entrepreneurship & Skill Development on BPO’ began on Thursday, March 31. The programme is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati in association with Alaphra Group, Nagaland. It is sponsored by the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Alaphra is a Dimapur based organisation with a vision to develop and employ the local community by promoting openness, innovation and opportunity.
The inaugural today was held at the Circuit House, Dimapur where Yanger Pongen, SDO, PHE was the guest of honour. It was attended by 30 thirty trainees selected from around Dimapur for the progarmme which continue till May 16.
Pongen, motivated the trainees to ever remain vigilant and create opportunities by utilising one’s talents. The Naga society today is build on the age old concept of ‘father-mother knows best’ where the children are spoon-fed, he averred. “We’ve become so accustomed to being spoon-fed, getting everything in a platter that the very thought of failure hits us like an allergic reaction.” This has allowed complacency to seep in, while creating a false sense of confidence and ultimately instilling a sense of fear to take risks, he said. “We’re so afraid of failing that we don’t take risks… we do not allow our talents to grow or come out.” This mentality, he further reasoned, has resulted in thousands of youths being unemployed.
He nevertheless encouraged the participants to take advantage of the training, while cautioning them to not take it as an end to their aim. “It’s only going to equip you and ultimately it’s going to help you.” “When you’re attending here, remove everything that is inside your mind; say ‘I don’t know anything… I’ve come here to learn’,” he egged on the trainees.
Ricky Ozukum of Alaphra Group said that the trainees, following the end of the training will get certification from the IIE, Guwahati. Once certified, Ozukum said that it will help them in availing government sponsored schemes to take up employment generating entrepreneurial activities. The training is not only about ‘BPO’ but will also stress on building self confidence, self motivation and becoming independent, he said.
The resource persons during the whole duration of the programme are Wapongmeren Longkumer, Ricky Ozukum, Imlienla and Wabangla Imchen, all self-made people in their own right. Longkumer is the director of ‘Soya Solutions’, Imlienla is a lecturer at ICFAI, Dimapur while Imchen specialises on human resource.
