Dimapur | April 3
Power supply to the entire district of Dimapur was disrupted for over 17 hours after a “technical snag” at the Nagarjan 132kV sub-station on the night of April 2. Supply resumed only at around 6:30 pm on April 3.
“Due to the complicated nature of the breakdown, despite all out efforts by the Department, much time was required to restore power supply to the entire district,” explained a press note issued by the Executive Engineer (EE) Transmission Division, Dimapur. It also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the consumers.
When contacted for more details, the EE said that the disruption was mainly due to “simultaneous failure of equipments” – one 132kV current transformer along with two lightning arrestors of 132kV and 66kV ratings. The EE said that effort to detect the faults and restore supply during the night was unsuccessful. He described trouble shooting faults in arrestors as a tedious and time-consuming undertaking.
