Er. Levi visits storm affected area of Tsosinyu

Parliamentary Secretary for PWD (Housing) Er. Levi Rengma today visited Tsosinyu village which was affected by heavy windstorm on May 16 last.  

Tsosinyu under Tseminyu Sub Division of Kohima district lies 47 km away from the state capital Kohima.  

16 private houses including Govt Middle School and Govt Primary School Tsosinyu were damaged by heavy windstorm. It also destroyed electrical poles/wires, uprooted large number of trees, and also affected cash crops and granaries.

The roof top of GMS Midday Meal kitchen was blown away while GPS building was badly damaged forcing the closure of school for the last three days.  

During his visit, Er. Levi extended financial assistance as immediate relief and assured that CGI sheet and other materials for reconstructing the damaged schools will be provided to enable the GPS to function early probably by next Monday.

The parliamentary secretary entrusted Tseminyu ADC and EAC to make necessary assessment of the extent of the property loss and bring to the notice of the government at the earliest.  

He said that necessary relief measures will be done through Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).  

Meanwhile, he was appreciative that the villagers as part of community service have reconstructed most of the damaged houses. He termed their quick response without depending much on government as a good sign.  

The neighboring villages also extended helping hand.  

Earlier, Er. Levi briefed the account of the incident to chief minister T.R. Zeliang this morning and discussed the ways and means to extend help to the affected families.  

Tseminyu EAC Shelley Katiry who also present during the inspection said that necessary assessment report will be compiled by the administration and submit the same to the government at the earliest.  

Tsosinyu Baptist Church pastor Sotilo Kath appreciating the parliamentary secretary initiative also expressed optimism that the government will come forward to promptly aid the villagers.
