Dimapur October 29 (MExN): Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 was observed across Nagaland with pledges to fight and eradicate corruption to achieve the vision of 'new India' by 2022.
Mokokchung: The State Vigilance Commission, Nagaland Kohima in collaboration with the District Administration, Mokokchung organized a programme at Town Hall, Mokokchung on October 29 in connection with the Vigilance Awareness Week 2018.
Vigilance Commissioner, Nagaland, Mayang Lima, while delivering the keynote address said government of India has set a vision for 2022 to make a new India by eradicating corruption. Saying that we need to build a corruption free society not only for today but more importantly for the posterity, Mayang Lima said corruption is the key that stops economic and political development and spoils our lives yet we continue to bear with the corruption.
He said our forefathers were considered honest, hardworking, courageous people by the outside world for corruption was unknown to them for they had integrity but when we look at ourselves today, we cannot say that we have preserved the good image of our forefathers. He further said that people talk about the system being corrupted, but in the real sense system if we change ourselves the system would definitely change, he added. He maintained that leaders alone cannot give a corruption free society to the people but it needs the participation of every citizens to eradicate corruption.
Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Manpai Phom in his short speech thanked the state Vigilance Commissioner for selecting Mokokchung for the program. He said it requires all the stakeholders and government servants to re-dedicate themselves and be proactive to fight against corruption.
In the programme, speeches of the Governor and the Chief Minister, Nagaland were read out. Thoughts on “Eradicate Corruption- Built a New India” were shared from Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, AKM, MTLT and ABAM. Integrity Pledge was administrated by the Vigilance Commissioner, Nagaland while Students of Clerk Theological College, Aolichen enthralled the participants with a song.
On the occasion, on Inter-School Debate Competition was held on the topic “It is possible to Eradicate Corruption from the Naga Society”. Eight schools from Mokokchung participated in the competition, namely, Edith Doughlas Higher Secondary School, Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Model Higher Secondary School, N.I Jamir Government Higher Secondary School, Jubilee Memorial Higher Secondary School, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Town Higher Secondary School and Senayangba Government Higher Secondary School.
The 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes were awarded to Model Higher Secondary School, Jubilee Memorial Higher Secondary School and Town Higher Secondary School respectively. The winners and all the participants were given citations and cash awards.
Kohima: In observance of the Vigilance Awareness week, a function was held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Kohima. Addressing the function as the chairperson, the Secretary Home Department, Rovilato Mor, IAS said that in preparation for the 75th anniversary of India Independence the Nation is gearing up for a New India by 2022. He also said that the Central Vigilance Commission as the apex integrity institution of the country, endeavours to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life had come up with the year’s theme ‘Eradicate Corruption – Build a New India’ for the observance of Vigilance Week. He added that in line with the theme adopted the pledge had to be undertaken. The pledge has been undertaken simultaneously by the employees.
DIPR: The Directorate of Information & Public Relations observed the Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 at the conference hall on October 29. Officers and staffs of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations also took oath and signed the integrity pledge which was administered by Additional Director IPR, Z Tokishe Sema. The awareness week seeks to motivate stakeholders to collectively participate in the fight against corruption and also aims at raising public awareness regarding the detrimental consequences of corruption.
Phek: Celebration of Vigilance Awareness at DC conference Hall, Phek on October 29, the programme was chaired by Luchui Fithu, EAC Phek, Hq who also delivered a short speech. Integrity Pledge was administered by EAC, Phek (Hq) to Officers and staffs of the District.
