Kohima, February 10 (MExN): District Sericulture officer, T.Sanny Pongener, inaugurated a “Community Eri spinning and weaving unit” on February 4 at Blue hill colony Wokha. Addressing the gathering, Pongener said Wokha district produces about 25 metric tons of eri cocoons annually and in order to utilize the Eri cocoons into silk yarn and make different types of Eri silk fabrics into a traditional Naga design and motifs, the department has aim to establish the unit under “Community Eri spinning and weaving project’, which is under state plan fund, adds the press note.
Pongener, encouraged the “Eyilo” self help group members to make use of the unit as productive unit and set example to all the community of the area to learn the new technology and also to have consistency and continuity in silk yarn spinning and weaving activities also to take up the activity as a job to generate good source of income for livelihood. Associate pastor K. Khonbemo Kikon dedicated the weaving unit.
