The 18th Emergent session of the 12th Assembly raised a heated debate on the issue of the dismissal of Dr. Shürhozelie as the Chief Minister, and division within the government.
The first to speak against the moving of the motion of confidence by CM TR Zeliang was Chotisuh Sazo who said: “As a responsible leader, having the mandate of my constituency to represent the voice and grievances of my people...I stand with a heavy heart.” Sazo viewed that the 12th General Assembly of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly of Nagaland has witnessed one of the most turbulent and tumultuous tenures in the entire life span of NLAs.
He expressed disappointment with the present tenure which instead of focusing on bringing progress for the State, is focused on power, and further said, “I have observed with pain and despair how this 12th Legislative Assembly has been bloated with scars, wounds and blemishes in the quest for power.”
On their arrival to Nagaland after days of camping in Kaziranga, the CM and his team were greeted with hatred, anger, frustration and denial by the people, which according to Sazo indicates the tenure losing the trust of the people. “Were we true to our electorates and the general public of Nagaland, we could discuss the matter at home, trash out our personal egos and settle our differences in the greater interest and betterment of Naga society. Escaping from realities has become the hallmark of this tenure,” Sazo viewed.
‘Governor has violated rules enshrined in the Constitution’
Arguing that Governor PB Acharya has violated rules of the Constitution of India by summoning an emergent assembly on Wednesday, Sazo pointed out that Wednesday is exempted for the Assembly or Parliament Session (Chapter IV, Hours of Sitting of Rules and Procedures and Conduct of Business of NLA).
“Arbitrary decision taken by the Governor to summon the Assembly is unconstitutional and violates the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in NLA. Further, the official intimation has not been received by some members till date,” he informed.
