Longleng, July 22 (MExN): Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA) conducted an essay competition on fundamental rights and duties at Vision Vale School Longleng on July 22.
Delivering an introduction of fundamental rights and duties and legal services, C. Imlichuba Phom, Para Legal Volunteer, LDLSA front office apprised that those entitled to get free legal aid are - any member of schedule caste or schedule tribe community, a victim of trafficking in human beings or beggars, any woman or child, victims of drug abuse, workers in unrecognized sector.
He also informed that any person with disability as defined in section 2 (i) of the person with disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of rights and Full Particpation) Act, 1995, a victim of mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood, drought, earthquake or industrial disaster, an industrial workman, a person in custody in protective home under the immoral traffic (prevention) Act, 1956 or juvenile home or in a psychiatric hospital or psychiatric nursing home and any person whose annual income is less than Rs. 1 Lakh in the state are entitled to get free legal aid.
Highlighting the different services provided by legal services authorities, Imlichuba further stated that the legal services authorities provide awareness on legal rights and entitlement under various schemes, provide para legal volunteers, set up legal aid clinics. He added that the legal services authorities also provide free counsel to the litigant and meet the cost of litigation, hold Lok Adalats etc.
Khatvang, PLV Longleng delivered conclusion note, while Omei N. Phom, Headmistress, Vision Vale school chaired the essay competition.
Altogether 80 students participated in the essay competition. The winners will be adjudged by Tucano Vamuzo, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary LDLSA.
